What is Civics

This website exists to develop a greater understanding of the concepts of civics and co-creation for citizens. By defining the study of civics and providing resources for interested citizens, this website serves as a guide that makes the internet more useful to citizens as co-creators of their world. A crucial characteristic of civics is education- both service-related and political- and, it is through collaboration and the deliberation of citizens working together that the co-creation of a better world becomes possible. The various tabs on this site provide information on the different types of citizens and how you can participate.

What is this website?

The discipline of civics is the study of the different aspects of citizenship, particularly concerning the rights and duties of citizens that form a collaborative effort to improve the world around us. Contribution can be small scale at the local level or on a larger scale such as at the national or global level. Civics focuses on public spiritedness and a commitment to the public good. As a study, it recognizes human creativity as a skill and a resource to be used to co-create the world. Citizens come together in communities to evaluate, collaborate, and solve problems. Ultimately, the goal of civic action is to reduce the negative in the world and promote the positive.

Civic Studies

Ultimately, the goal of civic action is to reduce the negative in the world and promote the positive.

Why should I care?

Civics is relevant to our lives because it is through civics that we can collectively make our lives better. Partaking in civic action does not require the permission of others, since the idea of civics itself is that power flows from the citizen. Civics is not just relevant to tasks such as voting and political activism. Rather, it is about identifying problems and devising solutions. Whatever change is needed in one’s community and the world, civics is the avenue for evoking that change.

So go ahead: explore, learn and co-create!
